Forchheim

Square and pavilions

Competition

in collaboration with K3 Architects and Simon Kettel

When the city developed in medieval times the so-called Paradeplatz has been used for military needs, later as an extension of the nearby market square. The transformation of the two squares is a story about the division of both of them. With the latest transformations, the market square turned into a quiet green space. The aim of the competition proposal is to create an urban, dense atmosphere as a contraposition to the small and quiet market square. The different pavilions refer  to the historical building tradition of the city [red and wooden constructions, large roofs and narrow plots] but at the same time the interventions create new situations as entrances to the square.
